    Description

Vintage 1970's Newton Kansas Physical Education uniform bag. In the Newton, Kansas Unified School District #373 during the 1970's, all 5th and 6th grade students; both girls and boys, were required to take a 9 week block of physical education, as well as blocks of art, home economics, and shop. We were also required to wear a special P.E. uniform, that our parents could purchase along with our other school supplies at Anderson's Bookstore on the corner of Main and Broadway.
The bag being offered was used to transport your uniform to and from school. It is made from a heavy cotton, similar to canvas. There are four metal grommets used to run a drawstring through. Additionally, there is a strap attached to one side seam, which could be used to hang on a hook, or to run a bike lock through as you rode your bike to school.
This bag is a real piece of Newton school history, and best of all, it is still functional today.
